How frequent does Hydrocephalus occur?

Approximately one of every 1,000 babies is born with hydrocephalus. It is nearly always detected at or soon after birth.

Because acquired hydrocephalus develops from the primary conditions such as traumatic brain injury, brain tumor and infection, its incidence is not known.
