Poverty is a leading factor behind difficult living conditions. Majority of poor families do not have enough money to see a doctor when one of the family members gets sick. Children are the most vulnerable in poverty-stricken situations.
Hydrocephalus is a medical condition that afflicts infants and young children. Many of these children come from poor families who cannot get medical help due to lack of financial means. A child with hydrocephalus can become blind, develop permanent brain damage and may even die if not given immediate medical help.
You have the power to save the life of a child with hydrocephalus by extending your help. Remember, every little help goes a long way.
This coming, September 25, 2010 (Saturday), the Hydrocephalus Foundation of the Philippines will be having a Fundraising and Thanksgiving Dinner, 7:00pm – 10:00pm at The Tower Club located at 33rd and 34th Floors, Philamlife Tower, 8767 Paseo de Roxas, Makati City.
The event will be dedicated to children with hydrocephalus. Guests can enjoy a nice dinner and help save someone’s life at the same time.
The Foundation is hoping guests can donate or fill-up Pledges that is equal to saving a child’s life. Each Pledge will amount to P100/day [or $65/month] for 1 year only. This amount is enough to save a life of a child and create a productive member of society.
The more people who extend their help, the more lives can be saved. You can also help spread the word by sharing our Facebook page. (Click here to go to our Facebook page.) Be a pillar of hope and contribute to a better world.

Hydrocephalus cases in the Philippines
There are many babies born with hydrocephalus in the Philippines and most of them are from poor families who cannot afford medication. Many of them have no choice but to seek help from government hospitals and private organizations offering public service. There are local TV networks that sometimes feature kids with cognitive diseases to ask for donations from kind hearted viewers.
According to Dr. Manny Cacdac from the Hydrocephalus Foundation of the Philippines, Inc., hydrocephalus is a condition that often afflicts poor and malnourished children. He said, “It often results from the lack of proper nourishment in the mother during pregnancy.” Cacdac confirmed that there’s a potential of one baby being born with hydrocephalus case in every 1,000 births in the Philippines.
These poor kids must be helped before they get totally blind or their brains get damaged beyond repair,” Dr. Cacdac stressed.
Dr. Cacdac together with the help of private organizations, foundations and few local neurosurgeons, perform 200 shunting procedures on indigent hydrocephalic children since 2007. The surgeries are often done in different hospitals where charges can be kept at a minimum.
